Upside-Down House: Fun Or Irony?

Upside Down House: Fun Or Irony?Daniel Czapiewski, businessman and philanthropist, proved once more that human imagination and intellect has no limits or boundaries.

If you ever travel to Poland, specifically to the village of Szymbark, and suddenly come across an upside-down house do not think that it is an illusion or hallucination because this house really exists.

Daniel Czapiewski designed a weird looking house, the construction of which took about 114 days–more than necessary. The workers had to take constant breaks because of the dizziness they felt during the construction, being unable to adapt to the interior of the house. Have you ever slept on the ceiling? The interior is totally upside-down too.

The upside-down house was not built just for fun. Czapiewski was making a political statement by building the house, commenting on the political chaos that existed during the communist era, and now it reflects that of the modern world. Czapiewski mocks and satirizes the political life of modern society. People feel disoriented when the house serves an alternate purpose.

If you ever find yourself in Poland don’t miss the chance of visiting one of the country’s eccentric tourist attractions. The upside-down house perhaps represents the confusion and paradox that we all face at some point in our lives. But you have to admit, it’s an amazing piece of architecture, no matter what it might suggest.
