Russian Oil Magnate R.Abramovich Buys Colorado Ranch

Russian oil magnate Roman Abramovich recently bought the Colorado ranch previously belonging to surgical-equipment tycoon Leon Hirsch for $36.3 million. This is already the second property Abramovich has purchased this season. In February he bought a 14,300-square-foot house in Snowmass for $11.8 million. The last purchase has 11 bedrooms, 12 baths, a media room, a climate-controlled wine room with a tasting area, a hot tub and a spa.

The Wall Street Journal posts some more details about the house.

Mr. Hirsch, founder of United States Surgical Corp., paid $5.4 million for the property in 1999 and built the custom home five years later. The house was designed by New York architect Bart Voorsanger, whose sum includes the redesign of New York’s Asia Society museum, and comes with floor-to-ceiling windows and custom furniture, including a chair made of leather and mink. The house had been on and off the market since 2005 and most recently was listed for $37.5 million.

An earlier deal by Mr. Abramovich’s was for a 5,600-square-foot ski-in, ski-out house, five bedrooms and 5 1/2 baths. The house is around five-minutes drive away from Snowmass.

Last year, according to Forbes’s list of billionaires, Mr. Abramovich was ranked No. 16 with a net worth of $18.7 billion. The magnate also owns a soccer team in United Kingdom.
