A Rotating House In The NetherlandsFor the last months, residents of Tilburg, Netherlands, could eyewitness artist and architect John Kormeling’s new artistic vision — a rotating house.

The house is monumental, amusing and is easily noticed while driving to cultural city of Tilburg. The rotating house associates with the fair, traffic, besides it preserves the architectural style of Tilburg.

As Wilson & Graf reports the house makes one complete rotation every 20 hours.

The project, nearly a decade in the making, involves a rotating house sitting smack dab in the Hasselt roundabout a spot that has been designated to showcase works of art (not to mention acting as one of the most important gateways to the city).

Powered by solar panels, the full-scale model house makes one complete rotation every 20 hours which results in a rather disorienting experience for commuters who frequently travel in and out of the city.

This majestic project required enough time and financing. The Kort website gives some details.

The budget for this art assignment amounts to $350,000.00 excluding VAT. The ground activities and the foundation will be carried out by the company Liebregts from Middelbeers and the building of the house by the company Moker from Belgium. The house will be finalised by John Kormeling. The rotating mechanism will be prepared by KMG from Neede.
