When you are trying to sell your home, it is very important that you get and keep the buyer’s attention from the get go. First impressions are everything in the marketing process. When a prospective buyer first looks at your home, these suggestions are the very things that can influence a buyer’s first impression and help you sell your house.

Let’s start with your house exterior. Your front door gives the first important impression of your home as the realtor and/or prospective buyer wait at the door waiting for it to be opened. A little linseed oil will freshen up a stained wood door or if your door is painted, clean it with soap and water. A pot or two of fresh flowers at the front door is very welcoming. Trim the shrubs, cut the lawn and keep the driveway and walkways clean of debris.

Keep ovens, stoves or surface units and all porcelain or stainless steel clean. Your cabinet counter tops should be clean and all kitchen accessories in an orderly fashion. Remove all unnecessary clutter from the counter tops. Bathrooms are very important and are difficult to keep clean. If the grout between the ceramic tiles has been cracked or has fallen out, either recaulk or replace it. The tools to do this project can be found in the hardware store and sometimes even the grocery store.

For your benefit, keep all pets put up during showings. Store jewelry, checkbooks and other precious items safely and out of sight.

These suggestions costs very little but will help you sell your house and insure you receive a fair market value. When you are preparing to sell your home, it is strongly suggested that you only spend money when necessary.
