Recently, those who like to buy real estate with a bit of haunted history got a spooky shock as the house that starred in the Amityville Horror films and book came up for sale. 108 Ocean Avenue is for sale for 1.5 million dollars, which many agree is a fair value for the property.

The Amityville Horror House got its reputation as one of America’s most haunted houses in 1974. That was the year young Ronald DeFeo murdered his entire family because, according to him, a demon told him to do so. A year later the Lutz family moved into the house and reported strange occurrences, such as hearing voices, lights going on and off, and a hole in the basement that led to Hell. Frightened for their lives, the Lutz family fled the house and turned their experience into a book, which later became the movie. Many will recognize the colonial architectural design of the house from the movie, since at one point the windows on the top floor began to glow like the malicious eyes of a terrible beast.

A Spooky Way To Buy Real EstateSkeptics claim that while the original murders did indeed happen at the house, the Lutz family used the story to their advantage as a way to get out of paying for the house. Numerous families have lived in 108 Ocean Avenue since the Lutz family and reported nothing strange going on, except for the numbers of tourists that they had to deal with. In fact, owners tried changing the architectural design of the house so that it would be unrecognizable in order to keep tourists away. The orientation of the house has changed. Remember the iconic architectural design of those two evil windows. They aren’t there anymore. Don’t buy real estate here thinking the house still looks the same as it did in the movie.

In fact, the brochure for the house states it has received several new upgrades, including a new kitchen and hardwood floors. The foyer is made from porcelain and the entire property overlooks the Tom River in New York. If nothing else, you will definitely have the best Halloween house on the block.
